How to take a Screenshot / Printscreen on a Mac?

Option 1: Screenshot the whole screen.

Hold down "Cmd" (also know as the "Apple Key") and "Shift", then press "3".

The Screenshot appears on your Desktop as a .png file.
(The .png image's filename will begin with "Screen shot" and has the date and time in this format: "Screen Shot [year]-[month]-[day] at [time]".

If you're using two screens with your Mac, two images will appear. One for each display.


Option 2: Screenshot a part of the screen.

Hold down "Cmd" and "Shift", then press "4".

Drag crosshairs across the area of the screen you want to screenshot.

The Screenshot appears on your Desktop as a .png file.
(The .png image's filename will begin with "Screen shot" and has the date and time in this format: "Screen Shot [year]-[month]-[day] at [time]".
